Singapore, Spring 2014 – I said goodbye to my French friend, Madam Descharmes, who was moving back to Paris. I thought it fitting to have our farewell lunch at Les Amis (Asia’s Best Restaurants 2015, #13 and Two Michelin stars, July 2016 ).
Madam Descharmes is more than a friend but also my French teacher. She had encouraged me to speak French with more confidence, even if I stumbled quite a bit. : )
We ordered the Menu Découverte, Pour Le Déjeuner (SGD $60) – 3 –course lunch.
La Saint Jacques – Pan Fried Scallop Coated with A Light Ginger Sauce
L’Asperge Blanche – Seasonal White Asparagus Cooked “a la minute” with a Traditionnel Light Sauce Hollandise
Bar De Ligne – Line-Caught Sea Bass from The Brittany Coast, Caviar Sauce
I had the seabass while Madam Descharmes ordered the steak. Both were delicious.
Le Steak – Charcoal Grilled Wagyu Beef Steak with Green Asparagus and a Light Touch of Kyoto White Miso
île Flottante Passion – Passion Fruit Floating Island on Alphonso Mango “Crème Anglaise”, Caramel & Crunchy Pink Pralines
Madame Descharmes commented that even the restaurant’s name – Les Amis – was most suitable for a place for les amis, good friends to say “Au Revoir for now”.
Despite numerous new restaurants springing up in Singapore over the past few years, Les Amis is still one of the most consistent and elegant restaurant in town.
