Singapore  – When dining, Mr. King & I prefer to explore places with a history. So it was pure nostalgia when we visited The Clifford Pier at The Fullerton Bay Hotel in Singapore.

The interior décor is contemporary and elegant, without compromising the original architecture of the 1930s pier terminal. The Clifford Pier, sitting on the waterfront, has an impeccable view of the Marina Bay Sands (casino and convention center complex) and Singapore Flyer (similar to London Eye).

Its cuisine reflects the hawker food culture that Singapore is famous for. We decided to try an array of local specialties:

Kong Bak Bao (pork belly sandwich), grilled chicken satay, Kueh Pie Tee (chopped turnip & carrots with quail egg & prawns inside a savoury crispy pie crust)

Popiah – 2 paper-thin crepes rolled with shredded turnip, bean sprouts, eggs & prawns

Honto Cod – Broiled miso-sake marinated black cod (not exactly local cuisine but it was delicious!)

Steamed Marble Goby (Soon Hock) Fish – We prefer to steam a whole fish versus just the fillet

Nasi Goreng – Indonesian styled fried rice, chicken satay topped with fried egg

Stir Fried Morning Glory with Sambal (Prawn Paste)

Wagyu Beef Rendang – Braised beef served with steamed rice

For dessert, we selected the Pulut Hitam (dark glutinous rice porridge infused with palm sugar, pandan & coconut milk) and The (pronounced “tay”) Tarik ice cream with honeycomb crunch. The Tarik is basically milk tea, local style.

Dining at The Clifford Pier is a wonderful way to experience Singapore’s culinary and cultural history!
