Jamavar

London, June 2018– Mr. King was there for a business lunch a few days prior and insisted on going back with me.  The 1 Michelin star Jamavar immediately became our favourite Indian restaurant in London.  Opened in 2016, it is the offspring of the successful Jamavar restaurants in India.

Located on the fashionable Mount Street, Jamavar is cosy and charming with elegant Indian décor.  The tables are intimate and there is a very lively vibe.

I chose the lunch set with 3 courses (GBP30).  For each course, there were between 3 to 5 choices, so no lack of variety.  Mr. King ordered two curries and two side dishes a-la-carte.

Tellicherry Pepper & Garlic Soft Shell Crab with Garlic Chutney – the crab was spicy and crispy, but I wasn’t sure I enjoyed the garlic chutney as much.  It is more of an acquired taste.

Malai Stone Bass Tikka – This was my favourite dish. I absolutely adored the mace, green cardamom, avocado & mint chutney.  It possessed a refreshing flavour.

Old Delhi Butter Chicken – Suffolk corn-fed, char-grilled & pulled chicken, fresh tomato & fenugreek.  A Classic and must order!

Jamavar Dal – Slow-cooked black lentils

Palak Paneer – Cottage cheese, spinach, tomato, fenugreek & fresh chilli

Rhubarb Chuski Falooda – Basil seeds, rhubard & saffron rabri kulfi.  As with most Indian desserts, this one was very sweet and rich.

We liked it so much that we recommended Jamavar to another friend also visiting London that week…and she loved it too.

We returned to the restaurant again on our next trip – Jamavar Oct 2019.  It certainly did not disappoint!
