Singapore, April 2017 – On the culinary scene, Tim Ho Wan serving traditional dim sum at exceptional quality, is known as “the most affordable Michelin-starred restaurant in the world.” Chef Mak Kwai Pui (formerly of the 3 Michelin starred Lung King Heen in Hong Kong) and Chef Leung Fai Keung created Tim Ho Wan in 2009, and took home their first Michelin star a year later. Tim Ho Wan decided to expand in Singapore where the predominantly Chinese population has a passion for Chinese food.
I recently visited their latest branch opening at Pacific Plaza. The restaurant is casual, and décor is simple. The menu was quite extensive, and the dim sum was delicious. Their food really reminded me of old Hong Kong…really authentic dim sum.
Steamed Spinach Dumpling with Shrimp
We tried Baked Bun with BBQ Pork – which was one of the “Big 4 Heavenly King” (meaning their signature dishes). I must declare this was the best baked bun with BBQ pork in Singapore. Every bun was shaped in a perfect dome, and filled with high quality pork stuffing.
Rice with Chicken Sausage and Mushroom – this was a childhood favorite of mine. Tim Ho Wan’s steamed rice had a flavorful seasoning.
Bean Curd Skin Roll with Shrimp
Braised Chicken Feet with Abalone Sauce
Vermicelli Roll with Sesame Sauce
Congee (Porridge) with Pork, Century Egg and Salted Egg
Taro Coconut Milk with Sago – I love taro and Tim Ho Wan does a wonderful job with this dessert.
Tonic Medlar and Osmanthus Cake – This is a jelly with floral flavors, very refreshing.

whenever i eat at tim ho wan, i feel like the original hole in the wall outlet in HK was so much more memorable. After deeper thought, i realised that its probably because i had to wait four hours to have a meal there, and was starving at that point! the outlets in SG are very good!
