Singapore, October 2016 – The invitation from Hermès read, “Discover the secrets of the interactive ‘Kellydoscope’ a super-sized fantasy Kelly.” There is always a certain sense of mystery to the maison’s exhibitions and even their invitations that makes one very curious.
Upon arrival at the Ngee Ann City Atrium (Takashimaya), I came face to face with a gigantic Kelly bag! The 12 ft. Kelly is made of toile and LadyCalf leather, and has all the Kelly features with clochette, sangles, plaque, lock and clous .
Oh, the giant Kelly bag was moving… shaking gently. The Hermès personnel directed me to a queue to “enter” the bag. Hmm, at this point, I was more than intrigued. What was inside?
The secret entrance was actually on the left side of the Kelly; by lifting the brown leather, I found a mini darkened room, with a seat for one (yup, the seat was no ordinary stool, but a huge round orange Hermès box).
Fancy a ride on a bicycle with you as the Kelly bag? A glass of champagne? A dance? Three short video clips provide the visual experience of you as a Kelly bag. Uh-huh, now the moving bag made sense!
The waiting time is approximately 20-30 minutes, and the show lasts about 3 minutes.
I personally think this is the perfect ode to The Kelly Bag, one of the most iconic handbags of all time!
The Kellydoscope had already travelled to Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur and London.
THE KELLY BAG is on exhibit from Oct 6 to 16, 2016 at 391 Orchard Road, Ngee Ann City Atrium Level 1, Singapore ; 10am to 9:30pm, Admission Free
