Hong Kong, May & July 2017 – The fact that I dined at L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon twice in less than 2 months is a testimonial on its own. Modern French cuisine in a casual dining atmosphere is the key reason that I go there a couple times each year.
Although I have been to several L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon in other cities, the Hong Kong restaurant offers a finer quality of food. Since 2014, L’Atelier has been the only three Michelin star French restaurant in Hong Kong. It is also #40 on Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants list.
The red and black bar counter seating is L’Atelier’s signature décor, which it uses in all the L’Atelier around the world. In Hong Kong, a section called Le Jardin, catering to a small number of tables, is discretely located at the back of the restaurant with a view overlooking the roof terrace. Both are equally comfortable, but at the bar counter, one gets the view of Chef David Alves and team hard at work in the open kitchen.

Les Entres / Appetizers

Lately, I have an infatuation with sweet corn, and the Le Mais (sweet corn cream on foie gras panna cotta) was amazing.

The sea bream, king crab and scallop certainly did not disappoint. The presentations were breath-taking.

Les Plats / Main Courses

Their duck and beef are cooked “au point” – perfectly done, juicy, tender and succulent!

Les Desserts

I cannot say that I was impressed by Le Miel (Yuzu cream puff with honey ice cream) when I had it in May. However, I was blown away by the refreshing combination of lychee and raspberry in Le Litchi (fresh lychee mousse with raspberry soup), and it was also picture-perfect!

To end the meal, the servers presented the neat little tray of mignardises (confectioneries) which are always delicate and exquisite. The lunch sets (4 course HK$598) were priced quite reasonably, so it is a little surprising that coffee and tea were also included.
I can’t wait to try their winter menu soon!
